A welder resume gets sorted in about ten seconds, and the person sorting it is looking for three things before anything else: what code you're certified to, what positions you've passed, and what processes you run. Everything else — years, companies, soft skills — comes after. If a coordinator can't find your certs and positions in the top third of the page, your resume goes in the maybe pile even if you're a great hand.
The trades secret nobody writes down: your resume's only job is to get you to the weld test. Once you're on the machine you'll prove yourself. So the resume has to make it obvious, fast, that you're worth the coupon and the coordinator's time.
Put a dedicated Certifications block right under your summary — not buried at the bottom. For each weld qual, give the code, the process, the position, and the material: “ASME Sec. IX, 6G, GTAW/SMAW, carbon & stainless” tells a coordinator everything in one line. “Certified welder” tells them nothing.
In your experience bullets, quantify the work: pipe sizes and schedules you ran, materials, code (B31.1, B31.3), and your RT pass rate. “Ran GTAW root / SMAW fill-cap on 2”–24” carbon and stainless per B31.3, 96% first-time RT” is worth ten lines of adjectives.
